Personally I'd get them to replace the whole unit. Use a cd key for a digital download game computer.
I'm not sure if it was the same hardware and I can't find out until I'm back on Jan 6th but we've had a spate of HP issues just like this. Various OS installs as well, 2008, ESXi being the two that I'm aware of. the 2008 box had the same issue you describe and I think the mobo was replaced just before I went on the leave. The ESXi ones are still being looked at.

Checked all the firmware versions and all are fine but there are newer versions on the web. It seems that some of these HP servers are being sent out with dodgy motherboards or bad BIOS firmware or something.
